Biography

Raj is a software industry entrepreneur and a senior executive with over 25 years in high technology management. He has direct experience as an operating executive and is an active investor and executive mentor with early stage companies from startup through M&A.

He founded GemStone Systems, an enterprise infrastructure software company that has pioneered the adoption of several infrastructure technologies including object oriented database management systems, application servers and in-memory, virtualized real-time data grids. Most recently, GemStone was acquired by VMWare , a leader in the virtualization and cloud computing space.

Raj truly enjoys working with and mentoring entrepreneurs. He is a founding charter member and a board member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Portland chapter. Raj is also a limited partner in Portland Seed Fund and Founders’ Co-op, a seed stage investment fund out of Seattle, WA. He is an active member of two of the most prominent Florida focused investment groups: New World Angels, a private group of angel investors) and Miami Innovation Fund , a private group of seed investors).

Raj is an active seed investor / advisor / mentor and has invested in several startups in Oregon and Florida including: BitDeli (a hosted platform for real-time data analytics), Celly (enables creation of public or private social networks instantly), Chirpify (enables consumers and businesses to buy, sell, donate and transact in-stream on Twitter), Gamiana (developer and publisher of massively multiplayer online games), Geoloqi (a real-time location platform), GlobeSherpa (a secure, mobile ticketing platform for transit systems, sold to ESRI), LivePlate (lets people cook together in real time, using group video and chat), MyMela (a dynamic online marketplace for Indian artisans), PHPFog (recently renamed AppFog, a leading platform as a service, PAAS provider), SweetSpot Diabetes Care (a health data company focused on data in treatment of diabetes, recently sold to DexCom), WedWu (a Priceline-like service for brides and grooms), and zApproved (legal and regulatory compliance platform SaaS).
